The 4 Sunglasses I Took On Holiday

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

Recently I was fortunate enough to go on holiday with my family for the Easter break.

Now, this news comes with mostly positives, as you can imagine. But there is one major negative and that, for me, is packing.

I despise the idea of packing, as well as actually doing it. It basically forces me to decide which items in my wardrobe are essentially more important than the others and should be taken along with me. But if you're like me, you know that every item in your wardrobe is essential and can definitely come in handy while on holiday. Who knows? Just because I adore an outfit right now, doesn't mean I'll be eager to don it in a couple of days' time.

To all you Style Soldiers out there who can plan an outfit a week ahead and stick to it, I salute you.

So, while selecting my wardrobe for the week, I was faced with the task of deciding which 4 candidates from my collection of sunnies would offer me a range of comfortable, yet stylish options for the trip. These are the 4 pairs I selected:

1. My black (retro vibe) gold-rimmed oval sunglasses

These definitely rank very high on my list of sunglasses. There isn't a single thing I don't love about them. They're super stylish but at the same time, very simple and effortlessly cool.

Another aspect that I really like about these is the gold rim or frame. It adds a special touch to the glasses which makes them stand out against your face. And because I wear mostly gold jewellery, this complements that very nicely and ties in very well with my accessories, so it definitely matches up nicely with any pre-planned holiday outfit.

2. My squoval tort sunglasses

Ooh I call these my 'rich wife' sunglasses. And I'm sure you can see why. When I wear these, I feel like a self-made baddie because these sunglasses scream chic, high maintenance (don't get it twisted - self-maintained) and seasoned.

I love the unique shape and the chunky effect it has when it sits on the face. I have a round/heart-shaped face, so this pair cuts right across the widest parts of my face - my forehead and the apple of my cheeks - and gives such a flattering effect.

These are also so affordable, I got them from Cotton On, and I can't get enough of them.

They offer so much protection from the sun while still looking fabulous so I packed these for lengthy picnics in the vineyard, laying under a lawn umbrella and munching on five different types of cheeses.

3. My geometric blacked-out sunglasses

These sharp sunnies by You & I, are one of the go-to pairs that I reach for when I'm on the move and need simple protection from the sun, but also a cutting addition to my OOTD.

I love the blacked-out look that these sunglasses give because it's all parts of it (the lenses and the frame) are the same shade of a very dark black so you almost can't distinguish it, and all you see is the sharp-looking shape against your face. Which then gives you a badass futuristic vibe.

I chose these because they were an easy item to pair against any outfit I chose while on holiday, and they're quite petite and lightweight so they can be taken along on any adventure, whether it's exploring the grounds at the resort or walking the bush trail to the beach.

4. My barely-there cut-up sunglasses

For the days when you don't actually need that much protection from the sun but still need to flex your style muscles, this pair does just that. They are so light and flexible, you barely feel them on your face, but all the compliments you get will remind you that they're there. The brown tones complement my complexion, while the gold accents add a touch of spice. This is such an interesting pair that I actually consider them more jewellery than shades sometimes. They just elevate any look that much so I include them just in case I need them for those lunches at an upscale local restaurant or lounging at a cafe.

These 4 options were great because they suited every look I had planned and packed for the trip but offered enough variety so it didn't feel like I was dishing up the same look every day. And you know a good pair of sunnies are exactly what you need when you gotta block out the sun, as well as all negativity while on your vacay.
