Winter is coming: Essential top layers from my wardrobe

Updated: Apr 22, 2021

Winter is coming, Jon Snow! (Dear GOT stans, I know I mixed 2 quotes there, please don't come for me). Anyway, winter is actually already here. But it's not all bad.

This season of chills gives us a chance to level things up and stack on those stylish winter layers!

Unlike in the summer, we now have to pile on much more clothing when we're heading out, so there are more opportunities to spice things up. Like with our colours and the items of clothing we pair together, for example, you could throw on a turtleneck, v-neck sweater and a longer length coat to create a banging monochromatic look!

My top 4 layers are my trusty jean jacket, edgy leather jacket, light longer-length tan coat, and my classic black overcoat. With these 4, I can easily construct my favourite winter outfits and add a great style element at the same time.

In the photo, I placed the jackets in order of warmth - because this is a winter post after all. The jean jacket is my go-to for a mild winter day where the sun is out and it's not so cold. I just wear it over a skinny long sleeve and pair it with my favourite black jeans and I'm good to go. With the tan coat, it's a bit lighter than the jean, but provides more coverage, so with the simple addition of a scarf, I'm perfectly warm, but still a bit stylish. Now, my leather jacket is not just a winter fave, but an overall fave so it can literally be worn with whatever, like a long bodycon dress or jeans and a light sweater. My last winter essential is my black overcoat, which is my warmest item and my easiest to style because black goes with everything. With this coat, I'm able to be more adventurous with what I wear because I know I'll be toasty regardless, so I could probably go with a short strappy dress and long sleeve combo, or a short skirt and stockings.

So if you're wondering what coat/jacket essentials you might need this winter, maybe consider any of these 4 and serve some chills, instead of just getting them.
